reflection

At the risk of being too wordy, I've pared down my reflections on each component of the program - learning, design, and technology - into a big idea for each. Then, I leave you with the big picture view of what I took from my experiences this year.

Learning

You learn a lot about education theories in your classes. Understanding these theories is greatly enhanced when you have experiences to tie them to. Get into classrooms, or any learning environment, and work with learners.

Technology
Real-world experiences enhance your understanding of theory.
You can't become a master programmer in a year.

I had this dream when I entered LDT. I learned really quickly after my first quarter CS class that it would take sacrificing sleep for the next year -- along with lots of other things -- to accomplish that goal. You can learn to do a LOT, don't get me wrong, but if you're starting from zero know-how, it's not likely you'll be building the next AirBnB by the end.

Design
You are a designer if you say you are.

I became re-acquainted with my creative self this year. This was a total surprise, but oh-so-welcome. You'll learn a lot about human-centered design and finding your own design process that inspires you.

Ever the people-pleaser and straight-A student, I had gotten into the habit of just doing assignments  I was told to and taking opportunities that others told me I should. This year, I realized that I had desires and interests of my own, and that I was actually free to pursue them. Embrace that freedom this year. It's all about you.

Grow in ways that you want to. Explore things that interest you. This year is all about you.
