Project |01 talk of the class

Fall quarter in Technology for Learners, we were challenged to design a tool for a specific learner. My group chose teachers-in-training as our learner. Through empathy work with teachers and the professors that taught their training classes, we identified a need for  feedback on small group conversations. Talk of the Class was born, an app that would voice-record group conversations and use natural language processing to pull out key topics being discussed in small groups and display that information for the professors to see so that they didn't have to be physcially stationed near every group conversation in order to know what was being discussed. This capability would allow them to adjust instruction and future lesson plans to address all student questions and interest surrounding a topic.

Project |02 reuse-a-cube

In Design Bootcamp fall quarter, we partnered with USPS to help envision the future of shipping. My group talked to lots of users of the USPS (and many non-users with strong opinions). Honing in on independent artists who need to ship fragile things daily, we created Reuse-a-cube. Drawing from USPS' current flat-rate model, we added a fleet of hard-case shipping boxes in three standard sizes with inflatable reusable padding that were circulated within a strategically developed request, drop-off, and return system.

Project |03 stickyunit

United over a desire to design for the k12 space, and in particular for teachers, fellow LDTer Evan Rushton and I embarked on our final master's project. After months of interviews, countless prototypes, and lots of pivoting, StickyUnit came to be. With StickyUnit, pre-service teachers craft cohesive units from Common Core standards on a tool that continues to support them in their first-year classrooms. StickyUnit’s backward planning framework is accompanied by bite-sized, just-in-time learning modules that allow teachers to learn by doing. Expertly-curated teaching inspiration is sprinkled throughout to motivate teachers in upholding the quality of teaching they know is what their students need for enduring understanding.
